CHRIS BURKE – London born illustrator,cartoonist and caricaturist.
Originally an Advertising Art Director, he has worked for almost every major British publication in the last 30 years, including, The Radio Times (every week for 5 years, illustrating radio pages- music, sport and caricatures), The Sunday Times ( mainly The Culture section particularly the Radio page each week), Punch, The Sunday Telegraph Food page, The Evening Standard, The Times T2, The Economist, The Guardian, London Review of Books, Time magazine, GQ (UK & USA), Tattler and Vogue amongst others.
He has worked for the FT’s multi award winning How To Spend It Magazine since its inception 20 years and is the longest serving contributor.
He has illustrated children’s books with Lenny Henry. Chemo Cakes and Cancer for Clic Sargent Children’s Cancer Charity. Illustrated books of poetry for BBC Children. Designed posters for Transport for London, the Welsh National Opera & the Metropolitan Police. He’s produced animated TV ads for Irish Tourist Board and billboards for Tesco, M&S and Sony. Stamps for Malaysia and Barbados. Work for Comic Relief and BBC News.
He created over 80 murals for Ottakars Bookshops.
In the last twelve months he has produced drawings for Dawn French’s 30 Million Minutes tour and drawing for the Stage production of Radio 4s Rudi’s Rare Records.
He has been Cartoonist of the Year and won the Creative Circle Gold medal for Illustration.
He is included in; The Dictionary of 20th Century British Cartoonists & Caricaturists; The Dictionary of British Cartoonists 1730-1980; and Who’s Who in Art.
His work is in many private collections and the permanent collections of The London Transport Museum and the V&A
